BRITISH Transplant Games medallist Steve Deakin will tackle the Channel challenge for the second time in his life this weekend.
Deakin, who received a kidney transplant in 1990 and has had both legs amputated below the knee, will be part of an elite transplant patients’ cross-channel relay swim on Saturday.
The Great Sankey resident, who was a member of the first ever transplant team crossing in 1991, goes into this latest challenge on the back of winning four medals in squash, canoeing and swimming events at the British Transplant Games in Sheffield.
Fellow Warrington competitor Andrew Knox, of Penketh, who has received kidneys from each of his parents, won a gold medal in the tennis at Sheffield.
