OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP: Archer fights Birkdale gales

WARRINGTON golfer Philip Archer is midway through his round at the Open in Birkdale.
The Birchwood star stands +5 after 11 holes with a mixed bag of scores including double bogeys on the fourth and 11th and birdies on the third and fifth.
The lead is currently held at -1 by Robert Karlsson of Sweden.
Archer has been battered by wind and rain throughout the first round.
And on the second hole, he struck one of the members from Birchwood Golf Club where he is the professional.
