Nicholls defends title

STOCKTON Heath’s John Nicholls will be bidding to defend his shot put title at the British Masters Athletics Championships in Birmingham on Sunday.
The 42-year-old world indoor silver medallist won gold in the British over 40s event last year and goes into the competition on the back of a second-placed finish at a men’s over 35s international against France and Belgium in Ashford.
The fomer Warrington Sports Personality of the Year threw 14.63m in Kent but was 56 centimetres behind fellow Briton Mark Wiseman.
