TWO Warrington Athletics Club competitors are keeping their fingers crossed.
Patrick Cook and Alex Wort are waiting to see if they did enough at the weekend’s North West Schools Combined Events Championships to be selected for the English Schools Combined Events Championships in September.
Cook, representiing Cheshire, finished fourth in the senior boys decathlon at Bebington on the Wirral.
His 11.8secs in the 100m, 6.24m in the long jump, 1.80m in the high jump, 8.32m in the shot put and 55.8secs in the 400m put him in fifth place at the end of the first day.
On the second day he recorded 15.4secs in the 110m hurdles, 25.8m in the discus, 2.3metres in the pole vault, 35.2m in the javelin and 5mins 7secs in the 1,500m to move up one place as he finished with a total of 5,071 points.
His high jump performance on the Saturday was a personal best.
Wort, also representing Cheshire, achieved personal bests in the high jump and 800m on his way to seventh place in the junior boys’ pentathlon.
He recorded 14secs for the 80m hurdles, 8.5m for the shot put, 4.52m for the long jump, 1.44m for the high jump and 2mins 19.9secs for the 800m in a total score of 1,974 points.
