WARRINGTON’S Johnny Akinyemi heads to Germany for the last World Cup of the canoe slalom season at the weekend having narrowly missed out on a place in the semi finals of the first two events.
The 19-year-old from Locking Stumps, who represents Nigeria because of family heritage, will compete in Augsburg after finishing 45th in the heats of the K1 class at the second World Cup in Slovenia on Saturday.
That meant the unlucky Akinyemi just missed out on making the top 40 and progressing to the semi finals, having finished 42nd in the heats at the first World Cup in the Czech Republic a week earlier.
Having also been edged out of a place at the Olympics recently, Akinyemi is currently ranked 30th in the world in the K1 category.
