STEVE Price said actions of his players this week showed how much they care.

The Wire dragged themselves off the floor following the lousy display against Catalans Dragons in the Challenge Cup Final, recording one of the biggest league wins in the club’s history with a rampant 80-10 triumph over Hull FC just five days after Wembley.

“It’s been a gut-wrenching week. We were hurting from last week’s performance because it wasn’t a Warrington Wolves performance,” said Price.

“We understand that and we can’t take it back now, it is what it is, but what we could control was our performance and our attitude in this game and it was first class.

“It shows we have a football team here and that we have people in the organisation who care and that’s really important.

“When we came back to training on Tuesday we had some brutal discussions in our review and they were hurting.

“We only had one session with the short turnaround, which was the captain’s run, but I could feel it and I could sense I was going to get a response and we did.

"It was a great response from the playing group.

"I thought their first 40 minutes was an outstanding display of rugby and I'm just really proud of the boys.

"Some fantastic tries were scored. I thought the execution and the display of the playing group was first class and I'm a happy man.

"I thought across the board they all contributed.

"There was Bryson with five tries, but I was pleased with all 17."

Price admitted he was concerned for the players’ welfare with the authorities scheduling a Wire game just five days after the cup final.

“I wasn’t too happy with the short turnaround when it first came out,” he said “I think that’s game 32 for us through the season and to have a five-day turnaround after the Challenge Cup there’s no duty of care for the players whatsoever.

“We would have liked a longer turnaround. I challenged a couple of people. I couldn’t work it out, but the powers above made that decision and we just had to crack on with it.

“But after dishing up what we did last week, there’s no better way than to get back on the horse and throw in a positive display like that. I’m just really proud of the guys.

“All players wanted to put their hand up and play.

“Harvey Livett wasn’t picked this week but we got a response out of the playing group and the attitude displayed was first class.

“We’ve got a football team that cares which is really important.

“The boys will get three days off now. It’s important that they get away from it and refresh. We’ve got four more games until wherever we end up.”
