WHILE it may have started scratchily, there have not been many low times during Steve Price’s tenure as Warrington Wolves head coach so far.

After taking over a team that had just finished in Super League’s bottom four, he has guided them to the brink of silverware once again.

The season started with four defeats from the first six games, but a 10-match winning run in all competitions announced their arrival as a force to be reckoned with.

FACE IN THE CROWD: Castleford v Wolves

Price believes the pivotal moment in their season came on March 17 against Saturday’s Challenge Cup Final opponents.

“The turning point for me was going to Catalans and winning,” he said.

“The conditions were extremely tough – pouring down with rain and with a lot of wind.

“I saw something that day that made me light up inside. I knew we had a football team.

“There was the period over Easter as well when we got four wins out of four. They were the stand-outs for me.

“It was about the resilience and blokes standing up for each other.”

It is that team spirit and camaraderie among both players and coaches that Price has hailed as key.

“The tightness within the group deserves a mention,” he said.

“They love being around each other and that’s really important when you come to work.

“I get on great with my staff. We challenge each other and we tell it how it is, what’s right and what’s wrong.”
