Salford City Roosters 14 Woolston Rovers 34

A COMMANDING second-half display saw Woolston Rovers claim an ultimately convincing win at Salford City Roosters on Saturday.

Mal Holt’s side trailed 14-12 at half time, but ran in 22 unanswered points after the break to jump to fifth in National Conference League Division Three.

“We had a few honest words with each other at half time and there was a massive difference in our second half performance,” Holt said.

“We completed more sets and scored some fine tries that saw us gain the win, whilst we also managed to ‘nil’ the opposition.”

After Salford had opened the scoring early, Rovers scrum-half Billy Maunder regathered his own chip and put half-back partner Dec Leonard over to level the scores.

A penalty put Salford back ahead and they crossed again to take the lead into half time, despite Justin Becker crossing from a Ryan Brown miss-out pass for Woolston.

However, Rovers then took control as Aaron Barber scored wide on the left to give them a lead they would not relinquish.

Becker then crossed twice in quick succession to complete his hat-trick before tries from Barber and Danny Griffiths rounded off the scoring.
