Hunslet Warriors 18 Crosfields 34

CROSFIELDS responded to their unbeaten run being ended in the best possible way by seeing off Hunslet Warriors on Saturday.

Luke Walker crossed twice for Ian Boden’s side to ensure they jumped back into second place in National Conference League Division Two ahead of Dewsbury Moor Maroons – the team who ended their 10-game winning streak on Wednesday.

Jack Reid scored a try and kicked five goals, while Jordan Williams, Nathan Taylor and Tom Brown were also on the scoresheet for Soap as they completed a run of three games in eight days.

“That win gets us back on track,” Boden said.

“I asked the lads to dig deep this week and they gave it their all.

“We've got a week now to prepare for a tough encounter at St Judes.”

Hunslet stretched out to an early 8-0 lead before Reid got Crosfields on the board.

An interception gave Walker his first try before he repeated the feat shortly after to put the visitors in command, but another home try reduced their lead to just two points at half-time.

However, Soap made the perfect start to the second half as Williams crashed over, but Hunslet reeled them back in once again.

They could not wrestled the initiative back from Boden’s side, however, as Taylor finished off a sweeping move before Brown barged over from close range late on to seal the victory.

Dewsbury Moor Maroons 32 Crosfields 18

AFTER making a midweek trip to Yorkshire, Crosfields saw their 10-game winning run ended by promotion rivals Dewsbury Moor on Wednesday.

Soap led 18-16 at the break, but were kept off the scoresheet in the second half by their hosts.

Dewsbury took an early lead, but the visitors levelled matters with their first attacking set when Jack Reid released the ball for Matt Barber to crash over.

The hosts hit Soap with two quick tries, but Ian Boden’s men hit straight back to take the half-time initiative.

After Tom Brown had got them to the Moor tryline, a set play saw Reid find Chris Hull running the perfect angle to cross.

Reid was again at the heart of things as he sent full-back John Whittaker through and he rounded his opposite number to give Soap the lead.

That, however, was as good as it got for the visitors as Dewsbury hit the front shortly after the interval and into a lead they would not relinquish.

They added two more tries before full-time to end Crosfields’ stunning run of form.
