WARRINGTON gymnast Lucy Stanhope will represent her country in the European Championships next week.

The 16-year-old, who recently completed her GCSE exams at Bridgewater High School, is selected in the Great Britain artistic squad for the event to be held in the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow from August 2-5.

Stanhope, who trains at the City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club with coach Claire Hynd, heads north on the back of a strong year so far.

She achieved fifth place in the English Championships, fourth in the British Championships and collected a team silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.

Each of those events were part of the selection process for the European Championships, together with two trials which took place at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

Further career highlights include team silver at the Junior European Championships in 2016 and silver on beam at last year’s English Championships.
