He has been playing Championship rugby this year, but has played first-grade NRL for New Zealand Warriors, Wests Tigers and Gold Coast Titans.
Thompson, who turns 30 next week, admits it will be a challenge to step up to Super League level but says he will "give his all."
"I'm looking forward to the next couple of months," he said.
"The opportunity arose to come here and Warrington is up there as one of the top clubs in Super League so it was a no-brainer really when I got the call.
"It's going to be a big step up, but I know that and I need to make sure I come here and bring my best, work hard and do all I can for the team.
"I'm a player that gives my all. I don't like leaving any stone unturned.
"It will be good getting to know the boys too. I do know a couple already from over in Australia - Sitaleki Akauola and Ben Murdoch-Masila - which is good."
