Warrington Town 1 Stockport County 4

YELLOWS fell victim to a polished attacking performance from Stockport County in their latest pre-season friendly.

Tony Gray scored for Paul Carden’s side at Cantilever Park, but the National League North side ran out ultimately convincing winners.

Matty Warburton, Connor Dimaio, Frank Mulhern and Nyal Bell were on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Town fell behind early when Warburton let fly from distance and the shot flew past Tony McMillan.

Gray was proving to be the hosts’ best attacking outlet and a superb turn and shot forced a good save from County stopper Ian Ormson.

However, Stockport doubled their lead when the ball dropped for Dimaio inside the box and he lashed an effort past McMillan.

Shortly afterwards, Warrington got back into the game after some neat interplay led to Gray checking back onto his right foot and curling beyond Ormson.

Mitch Duggan then fired a shot straight at the keeper as Town finished the half strongly – a trend that continued after the break.

Gray forced a one-handed save from Ormson, before substitute Josh Amis flicked a header from a corner against the crossbar.

County’s quality shone through late on, though, as Mulhern chased onto a long kick from Ormson and lashed home.

Just before full-time, Yellows gave the ball away in their own half and Bell – a big threat to the home defence all night – strode through to finish.

Carden takes his side to Ashton Town on Saturday for their next pre-season test.
