Stanningley 22 Crosfields 36

IAN Boden says he has “run out of superlatives” for his Crosfields side after seeing them brush league leaders Stanningley aside on Saturday.

Their scintillating display – featuring two tries each from Tom Brown and captain Jack Reid – allowed Soap to record an eighth win in a row and reaffirm their promotion credentials.

They sit third in National Conference League Division Two and are just two points behind second-placed Dewsbury Moor Maroons with a game in hand and a better points difference.

Boden believes Stanningley, who had lost just twice this season before Saturday, were “shell shocked” by his side’s style of play.

“I can’t give enough superlatives for the team’s performance,” he said.

“Stanningley were shell shocked by our containment of their big forwards and use of the ball with our speedy pack.

“Another massive plus was the squad inclusion of Scott Turton, who repaid my faith in him.”

“He’s another product of our successful junior section and has now got his foot in the door of the open age.”

Brown burrowed over from Tom Millington’s offload to open the scoring for the visitors before Reid dummied through the home defence to stretch the lead.

Stanningley reduced the gap, but a superb Reid pass sent Jordan Williams crashing over and before the break, Matt Barber shrugged off the attentions of three defenders to touch down.

Another home try after the break kept them in touch, but Soap were always too far out of reach as Reid once again dummied through for his second try.

Brown’s second try – sandwiched between two more home efforts – put more gloss on a superb away display from Boden’s side.

Soap are on the road again on Saturday as they travel to Hull Dockers, kick off 2.30pm.
