STEVE Price laughed off rumours of half-back Chris Sandow returning to Warrington Wolves as a replacement for the departing Tyrone Roberts – saying there was “more chance of the kitman being signed.”

When Roberts’ decision to leave The Wire at the end of 2018 was announced Sandow urged the club to “give him a shout” in a post on his Instagram page.

He also said he was keen to win Warrington fans back over after he infamously walked out on the club following the 2016 campaign.

However, Price was quick to pour cold water on the prospects of Sandow returning to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

He also kept his cards close to his chest when asked about the progress made in recruiting Roberts’ replacement and backed the 27-year-old to flourish for the remainder of the campaign.

“There’s more chance of Joey Johns coming out of retirement to play for us than of Chris Sandow coming back,” he said.

“There’s probably just as good a chance of Alfie Langer, too, or our kitman Bobby Moore.

“I’m always looking at good players to bring to our football club. We’ll do things behind the scenes in that regard.

“Tyrone has been really good. It feels like he has had a weight lifted off his shoulders.

“He can get out there and fully enjoy his footy now.

“I know he’s really desperate to finish the season on a positive note. He’s outlined that to myself and the rest of the players.

“Sometimes these circumstances pop up in life, with two young children and not much family support around them.

“I think we’re in the top two for tries scored down our right side, so we’re doing a lot of good things over there.

“Over the coming weeks, hopefully we’ll see Tyrone blossoming and get a bit more of a running game into him.”
