STEVE Price says The Wire’s energy let them down in last night’s defeat to Castleford Tigers.

The visitors edged a to-and-fro encounter 34-30 at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, bringing an end to Warrington’s eight-match unbeaten home run.

Castleford are now level on points with The Wire in Super League and Price admitted the Tigers were worthy winners.

“There were patches when we gave ourselves opportunities to win the game, but we weren’t good enough. We understand the areas that let us down tonight,” he said.

“Part of that was our energy levels. They weren’t quite working for us tonight.

“In hindsight, maybe the Wigan game took more out of us than we thought.

“That’s no excuse though, we had a fair turnaround.

“Credit to Castleford. They played very well tonight.

“Everything they did was far superior to what we were doing.”

Castleford spent 10 minutes with 12 men after Adam Milner was sent to the sin bin for a shoulder charge on Tyrone Roberts.

They added a try through Josh Charnley during that period, but Price says they should have handled that period better.

“We were feeling pretty confident at half-time going into the second half,” he said.

“I was a little disappointed our start to the second half, our application to detail and some decisions with the ball.

“We didn’t handle the period when Adam Milner was in the sin bin, but we’ll learn from that.

“Our execution with the ball wasn’t there at times, but we gave ourselves a chance at the back end.”
