PHILIP Brown targeted the large tench when he visited Sandiway Lakes last week.

On his tench gear, feeding sweetcorn and using it on the hook, he missed out on the tincas but ended his session with two mirror carp at 17 and 24lbs.

Association bailiff Andrew Hewson reports that good numbers of carp are coming out of the smaller water there, and he he caught four - and lost one - on pineapple pop-up boilies.

On his first trip out following shoulder surgery, Mike Pritchard headed for one of his favourites venues - Ackers Pit.

Some members targeting carp there are struggling, but the fish will have only recently spawned.

Mike sought anything that swims and, fishing a light waggler and feeding caster over hemp, he had a good 10lbs of fish made up of a solitary rudd, a skimmer (they're coming in as fry from the Bridgewater via the supply brook), a hybrid, and the rest were roach with the exception of a terrapin.

A couple of the roach were around 12oz to 1lb.

John Dagnall was the victor by a clear margin in our latest disabled and over 60s match on Monday, fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Hilltop.

He caught three bream that added nicely to 14oz of roach and perch for a total weight of 6-14-0.

Lennie Dutton was second with an all-roach catch of 1-14-0.

Fish are still spawning on some waters, so please respect the swim closures.

A swan managed to get tangled in an angler’s line at Sandiway, and if that wasn’t bad enough the anonymous member never thought to report it to our bailiffs so they could attempt a rescue.

On the same water, members should be aware there are no public footpaths around the lake's perimeter.

It is our land, and you're within your rights to tell people they are trespassing.

If they cause trouble, call the police and log the incident number for our records.

Keep sending your catch reports - it's always nice to let fellow members know how waters are fishing - by email to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or call me on 01928 716238.

Our association headquarters at Parker Street are open every Friday, between 7pm and 9pm, for night-permits, membership-renewals, subscriptions and any queries.
