BEN Westwood, Wire’s current longest serving player, has revealed which teammate is catching his eye the most with his performances for Warrington Wolves this year.

Ironically, it is the man playing in the number 12 shirt he once made his own – Jack Hughes.

A couple of other forwards, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Chris Hill and Mike Cooper, get name-tagged by Super Bennie too.

“Masila when he’s angry, I love it when he’s angry, because he’s virtually unstoppable in some plays sometimes,” said Westwood.

“Coops and Hilly have been playing well.

“I think Jack Hughes is playing really well – the work that he does.

“Jack is an 80-minute man every week. He’s been having to go into the middle a lot and he’s been holding his own there.

“He’s been having a cracking season.

“He does that most weeks but you don’t seem to notice it as much as we are this year.

“The hard work that he puts into training is paying off.”

Hughes’ work is being noticed at international level too, with the 26-year-old former Wigan and Huddersfield back-rower in the England Knights Performance Squad.

“Papua New Guinea at the end of the year with England Knights would be great for him and there’s always chance for him to go into the full side at the end of the year,” said Westwood.

“If he carries on playing like he is playing, with his workrate, it won’t go unnoticed.”
