HARVEY Livett turned down the chance to play in Australia to sign a new deal with Warrington Wolves.

The 21-year-old has signed a new deal with The Wire to keep him at the club until November 2020.

Warrington-born Rylands Sharks junior Livett has stood out in the second row in recent weeks and is in remarkable try-scoring form having crossed eight times this season.

His initial deal was due to expire at the end of this season and his performances have attracted the attention of other clubs.

However, Livett says it was always his intention to stay with his hometown club.

“When I was growing up I used to go to home and away games watching the team so it means a lot to wear the shirt each week,” he said.

“I had a few other options but I’m a Warrington lad and I always wanted to stay with the club.

“All my family are from Warrington and it means a lot to play for my hometown club.

“I’m looking forward to the next two years and I’m confident we can win some silverware in that time.

“We’re looking good this year in the league and are still in the Challenge Cup so hopefully we can challenge for both this season.”

Chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick confirmed there was NRL interest in Livett, a product of the club’s academy.

He also said the England youth international’s progression shows the investment Wolves have ploughed into their academy is starting to bear fruit.

“We had to beat off NRL interest to keep Harvey at our club,” he said.

“It is great to retain a product of our academy system. This is an area we have significantly invested in over recent years.

“With the current scholarship team going unbeaten this season we are confident there will be many more homegrown players progressing into the first-team in the future.”
