APPLETON Cricket Club’s men’s section had a forgettable weekend.

The first XI were bowled out for 130 on a good pitch at Lyons Lane by Bunbury.

Despite 3-15 from vice-captain Martin Cooper, the visitors reached their target in 21 overs for the loss of seven wickets.

Appleton’s second string lost a nailbiter at Neston’s fourths.

Four wickets for stand-in skipper Ed Pugh led to the home side being bowled out for 130.

A mid-order collapse resulted in Appleton slumping from 94-5 to 103-9 despite 49 from Ian Mason.

A desperate last-wicket stand came up nine runs short of Neston’s total.

An understrength fourths lost to table-toppers Kingsley’s seconds.

Bowled out for just 78 at Grange Sports, the hosts were able to take five wickets but it was not enough to prevent Kingsley from reaching their target in just 18 overs.

The thirds claimed a draw away at Mellor.

Mike Cumberland claimed 5-46 as the hosts were bowled out for 208.

Mark Sands, 41, contributed to a creditable 160-7 in response.

Appleton Tigers’ seconds won only the second match since the women’s team were created when they beat Lymm Oughtington Park.

Georgia Heath, 37, and Chris McLean, 31, were the big scorers, with excellent support from Sylvia Christelow, 23, and Abbey Gore, 10, helping them to post a target of 143.

Lymm reached 49-5 in reply in the fading light, with Annie Roberts celebrating taking her first senior wicket.
