TWO Latchford Albion players have been selected for county and international honours.

Joint-captains Danny Brown and Phil Woollacott are both part of the Lancashire squad that will take on Yorkshire in a War of the Roses clash at Siddal on Monday.

Beyond that, the pair have been selected for the North West Men’s League England Lionhearts squad to tour Italy, with an official Test match being held in July.

The tour will be Woollacott’s first, while Brown will be travelling for the third time having previously played for the Lionhearts in Canada and Serbia.

“I am so proud for these two men to represent our proud club, earn well-deserved honours and encounter some great experiences,” Latchford Albion head coach Lee Smith said.

“Danny is your traditional, old-fashioned, one-club man and absolute legend of a player.

“He has resisted offers from higher levels of rugby league to be part of the Latchford project and we are so fortunate to have him.

“Phil is getting better every week. He only returned to rugby league recently but has quickly become a pivotal part of our team.

“With these two at the helm, the future of the club could not have stronger leadership.”

The tour is self-funded and, while some sponsorship has already been acquired, anyone interested in helping out Danny and Phil should contact club chairman Mike Byron on 07769788995.
