STEVE Price has urged his Wire players to enjoy the Magic Weekend experience and showcase “one of the greatest games of all” to supporters.

Warrington take on Wigan Warriors today as the English game’s annual mid-season festival heads to Newcastle’s St James’ Park for the fourth year in a row.

Another large crowd is expected at the 52,000-capacity home of Newcastle United FC for what will be Price’s first experience of Magic Weekend.

It will also be new to several members of his Wire squad, but the head coach has urged them not to lose sight of why they play the game.

“Hopefully we can get a fast game and a dry track. That’s what we’re looking for,” he said.

“Apparently it is a fast field so that certainly suits Wigan’s style and ours as well.

“After talking to the guys after the weekend, they are really excited about playing in Newcastle.

“Everyone says it’s a great weekend and they speak very fondly of it.

“It’s important to enjoy the occasion. We play rugby league because it’s fun.

“As a team, we don’t lose sight of that because rugby league is one of the greatest games of all.

“We have a duty to showcase that this weekend, not just to our fans but for everyone who comes to Newcastle this weekend.

“The players need to do their jobs, but also enjoy it.”

Price says composure will be important for his side on Saturday - a trait in which they have excelled of late.

He has backed half-backs Kevin Brown and Tyrone Roberts to keep things calm once again.

“We are playing with composure and that will be key, but it all stems from the halves,” he said.

“The way Kev and Tyrone are in and around the playing group, they drive everything both on game day and in training.

“They don’t get flustered, they are always composed and it reflects on the guys next to them.”
