Latchford Albion 32 Rochdale Mayfield A 24
LATCHFORD consolidated third place in North West Men’s League Division One courtesy of coming out on top of an end-to-end battle with Rochdale Mayfield.
Albion led 16-6 thanks to tries in the opening five minutes from Jack Phillips and Carwyn Chamberlain, before Frazer Jones-Lake charged over in reply to a response from the visitors.
Latchford fell 18-16 behind after being guilty of overplaying and although 17-year-old debutant Ben Harper put the hosts ahead with an acrobatic effort Mayfield edged back in front after Dan Webster was sin-binned for a professional foul.
Phil Woolacott crashed over from dummy half and then Chamberlain’s second try put the seal on the victory.
This Saturday both open-aged teams have fixtures at the ASICS Victoria Park Stadium, with the first-team hosting Halton Simms Cross and the reserves entertaining Rylands Sharks.
