BEN Currie will miss the remainder of the 2018 season, Wire head coach Steve Price has confirmed.

The second rower suffered a second anterior cruciate knee ligament injury after falling awkwardly in a tackle in last weekend's Challenge Cup win over Bradford Bulls.

Price confirmed after tonight's 38-4 win over Huddersfield Giants that Currie would be going for surgery on Wednesday but that his season was over.

"Ben won't play again this year. It's unfortunate in the way it happened," he said.

"He'll come back bigger and stronger as he's got plenty of good years left.

TIMELINE: Currie's injury nightmare

"Ben’s devastated, like anyone would be the second time around. He’ll be looked after by our footy club.

"He’s held in high regard. He’s a quality person and we know he’ll do everything he can to get back as quick as he can.

"It’s important that he gets it right and I’ve got all the confidence in our high performance staff to get him right for next year.

"He’s got another eight to 10 years in him. There’s plenty of players out there who have come back from two, and some who have come back from a lot more."
