A SERIOUS injury suffered by Albion’s Jamie Sampson took the shine off Latchford’s convincing win on Saturday.

Just after the hour mark, the game was abandoned when Sampson landed awkwardly after a tackle and suffered a compound fracture to his tibia and fibula.

“I feel for Jamie so much. He returned this season after a break from the game and was starting to find his form again,” Albion coach Dave Yii said.

“It was a complete freak injury, but the severity is one I had not seen before.

“I would like to place on record the professional assistance he received immediately after the incident from our sports therapist Kirsty Allen, and also our players who helped.

“The paramedics, as always, were brilliant.”

Before the abandonment, two tries each from Danny Brown, Ryan Palin, Ste Arnold and Craig Willcock had won the game for the hosts, with Lloyd Feather and Jack Phillips also on the scoresheet.

The club have set up a Justgiving page to support Sampson in his recovery from the injury.
