STEVE Price has challenged the Warrington Wolves pack to step up once again when they face Wakefield Trinity tomorrow, Friday.

The Wire’s middle unit has been drawing plenty of praise despite inconsistent results, with the likes of Chris Hill, Mike Cooper and Ben Westwood all making impressive starts to 2018.

Tomorrow, an equally solid Wakefield pack arrives at The Halliwell Jones Stadium and Price says he expects the game to be won and lost in the middle third.

“It’s going to be a really good challenge on Friday night because it’s another step up again for us,” he said.

“They are a quality football team. They have a lot of strike and speed out wide and a big, solid forward pack through the middle third.

“It will certainly be an interesting battle up front. That’s where most footy games are won.

“They set the platform and I’m expecting a really solid performance from our middles.

“They’ve been laying a great foundation for us and I want them to build on that.”

In the backs division, Josh Charnley is in contention to make his Wire debut and play his first game of rugby league in almost 18 months.

Price admitted the former Wigan winger’s signing is a notable scalp for the club but has warned fans against expecting too much too soon from the 26-year-old.

“It’s a great coup for us. Josh is a fantastic player,” he said.

“He’s shown his worth for Wigan and in playing on the big stage for England.

“He’s been out of the game for a little bit, but he’s a winner. He competes hard and he’s played on the biggest stage.

“That was a few years ago, though, and the way rugby union players train is a lot different to the way we do.

“He’s a good athlete so we’d like to think he’ll pick up fitness pretty quick, but like everything it takes a little bit of understanding to get used to the calls and systems.”
