WARRINGTON Gymnastics Club had two members competing against the best in Britain last weekend – with one of them coming home with a medal.

In the Espoir competition, Darcy Chesters wowed on the uneven bars and the vault to reach the finals at the British Gymnastics Championships, which were held at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.

It was on the bars where Chesters made the most impact and she secured a bronze medal. She finished eighth on vault and seventh in the all around standings.

Kara Heaton finished her competitive career in style by completing four clean routines in the senior all around competition.

She will now continue in the sport as a coach.

“I’m amazed at the support of the members and very proud of the gymnasts, team of coaches and staff at the club,” head coach Sophie Whelan said.

“The future is bright. We have some fantastic gymnasts at the club and it’s amazing that our members are getting these opportunities.”

Sophie’s sister Hannah, a double Olympian who also coaches at the club, added: “It was a different experience being there as a coach, but a fantastic competition for our gymnasts.

“It’s very exciting times and we are really looking forward for the future for the club.”
