STEVE Price is confident there is more to come from his Warrington Wolves side with the ball in hand.

While he was pleased to keep Wigan to 10 points in the first home win of the season last night, he felt his players should have assembled at least a 20-0 lead by the time of Ryan Atkins’ disallowed try at the start of the second half.

“I thought we dominated the true value of the game for the 80 minutes,” said Wolves head coach after the 16-10 success.

“The scoreline wasn’t a reflection of the game, especially that first half.

“I thought with our execution at times in that first half after the amount of possession we had we should have come away with a few more points.

“The missed opportunity just before half time when we had the dropped ball before the try line and straight after half time we created another opportunity.

“We should have been 20-24 points clear but it wasn’t to be. They’re a quality football team, Wigan, been a top four Super League club for a lot of years and it’s just good to get the result.”

Losing Ben Currie and Kevin Brown during the game meant Wolves were restricted in their replacement options as the game panned out.

“We kept finding a way to turn Wigan away (in the second half),” said Price.

“They scored a try right on the bell but systematically I felt we were in control for the majority of the game.

“We had blokes working hard. It’s a credit to the guys on how hard they’re working and the resolve they’re showing.

“You’ve just got to find a way to do whatever it takes and (after the injuries) we had 15 guys who did that. It was a very pleasing result.”

He is pleased with the improvements shown in the past two matches, following the 20-6 loss at Huddersfield Giants a fortnight ago.

“Definitely with the attitude and their intent, their ability to keep turning teams away,” said Price.

“In the past two weeks we’ve kept teams to 10 points. Tonight there was a try at the death, so it’s very pleasing and the more times Kev, Tyrone and Daryl Clark play together with Stefan I’d like to think we’re going to get better over the coming weeks.”

He felt it was a team performance but singled out a couple of players for their night’s work.

“I thought there were a lot of good performances,” he said.

Mike Cooper played 60 minutes straight, that was a big effort.

“Sitaleki showed a lot of good signs for his first game for the club.

“I thought Bryson Goodwin was nice and aggressive on that left edge.”

And he confirmed that Mitch Brown’s debut on the right wing came as a selection choice over Matty Russell rather than their being an injury to the Scottish international.

“I just thought that was the best way going forward with our team and I thought Mitch did a really good job.”
