STEVE Price is set to make changes as his Wolves outfit bid for their first home win of 2018 against Wigan.

Marquee scrum-half Tyrone Roberts is in the 19-man squad after missing two games with a knee injury, while Sita Akauola and Mitch Brown are in the running to make Super League debuts for Wire.

Powerful Tongan prop Akauola, captured from Penrith Panthers, has had to be patient for his first shout on the back of shoulder surgery he had in Australia before checking in for pre-season training, while former Leigh Centurions utility back Brown is favourite to replace left-out winger Matty Russell.

A late call is expected to be made on Ireland international Joe Philbin following his concussion in the first win of the campaign at Widnes Vikings on Friday.

Price had the luxury of every member of his squad being on the training field on Tuesday, providing healthy competition for places, and he will settle on his 17 after the captain’s run today.

With an elusive first win secured, which has lifted the mood several notches around town, now it is about finding some consistency for The Wire.

“There’s been a little bit more excitement about the local area,” said Price.

“That’s not something I really drive off or focus on.

“For me it’s more about doing the things that we can control and that’s playing good football.

“The performance (at Huddersfield) was unfortunately disappointing the previous week, but I had the utmost confidence and belief in the playing group that we weren’t that far away.

“The rewards and the effort that the players had been putting in hadn’t been coming to fruition but it was a good sign when we went down to 12 men at Widnes last week that they stayed in the fight and showed a lot of resilience by defending their try line.

“We knew we’d get a response out of them at Widnes. They’re a playing group that want to do well and care for each other. I’ve seen that from day one.

“I know that we’ve got a footy team here. We’ve just got to reduce our errors and our penalties to give ourselves more opportunity to be able to have more attacking sets at the opposition try line. And if we do that, then the points will come.

“It’s important we build from last weekend.

“You’re always trying to be a consistent footy team and you’ve just got to keep growing and believing in the things that are working and work on the areas we need to nullify out of our game – and that’s certainly our errors and our penalties.

“From a team perspective, the lads are heading in the right direction.”
