THREE Warrington Athletics Club runners were rewarded for strong performances in the Central Lancashire 5k race.

David Gill along with father and son, Nick and Jordan Jones, won in their age-groups on the course in and around Leverhulme Park in Bolton and climbed into top-two positions in the UK rankings.

Nick led them home in 16mins 47secs in fourth place overall to win the over 40s bracket and move to joint second in the UK rankings for his age group.

His son Jordan was sixth in 16mins 55secs to win the under 20s trophy and take over number one in the national standings for that level as well as under 17s.

Gill finished 50th in 19mins 34secs to clinch the over 60s trophy and top spot in the UK rankings for his section.

Warrington AC’s Edinburgh University student Katie Lowery backed up her third-placed junior position in the Armagh International Road Race in Northern Ireland on Thursday with another top-notch display in the British Universities Indoor Championships over the weekend.

On Saturday she won her 1500m heat in 4mins 38.81secs to qualify as the youngest finalist the next day at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

She was 0.43secs outside of the medals when she finished fourth in the final in 32.47secs.

Clubmate James Gladman reached the semi finals of the 400m in the UK Indoor Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on Saturday.

In his heat he finished second in 47.95secs but was fifth in the semi final in 49.10secs.

Julie Hicken compete as a guest in the Southern Masters Indoor Championships at Lee Valley in London on Sunday.

In the 200m in the over 55s age group she recorded 32.77secs for fourth place, while in the 60m she was third in 9.85secs.
