A CONVERSATION in the changing rooms between Wolves’ front-row hard men Chris Hill and Mike Cooper could easily be about nappy changing rather than rugby league.

For the pair are bonded by becoming dads again as well as being charged with attempting to dominate similar big fellas on the field in the Wire cause at Widnes Vikings tonight.

It’s a life of gentle giants off the field, menacing marauders on it.

Hill becoming a father for the fourth time became very public on February 1 when the Wire skipper was substituted in the second half of the Super League Round One clash against Leeds Rhinos because his wife Kathryn had gone into labour.

Fewer people are aware that the new member of the Cooper clan arrived a couple of weeks earlier.

Oscar’s timing was a little better than that of Hill’s daughter Iris-Kay, meaning no mad dash back from a training camp in South Wales for the former Latchford Albion junior - by the skin of his teeth!

“We were in Cardiff Monday to Friday, and he was born at 12.45am on the Saturday. So I’d just got back from camp and it was that night Kate went into labour,” said 29-year-old Cooper.

“Oscar was born four weeks ago. I’ve got two little lads now keeping me busy, three-year-old George and a new born.

“Chris Hill’s in the same situation, it’s not easy when you’ve got new-born babies and you’re trying to train on a lack of sleep but it’s great being a dad.

“It’s easier second time around for me, but not for my wife when she’s up in the middle of the night when he’s screaming.

“Oscar’s not been to a game yet, it’s been a bit too cold and wet for a new born. But he will do, he’ll join the club.”
