WARRINGTON Hockey Club men’s firsts got back to winning ways against Bolton’s seconds – but they had goalkeeper Roger Parr to thank for a crucial intervention.
Parr made a vital save to keep out a penalty flick and the hosts eventually ran out 3-1 winners at Priestley College.
Adam Garrod scored twice to secure the win after Ben Vickers had earlier given Warrington the lead.
The men’s seconds made it six victories in a row with a hard-earned win on the road at Llandudno.
With the game goalless at half-time, Noal Philpotts continued his scoring streak with a beautiful strike from a short corner to break the deadlock in the second period.
That proved the catalyst for Warrington to go through the gears and Iain Richards secured the win by finishing off a move involving Dan Sutton and Chris Lyon.
Sadly, however, the club’s women endured a tough weekend as both senior teams fell to defeat.
With a host of key players missing through injury, the firsts lost 3-0 to a well-drilled Deeside outfit at Priestley College.
The seconds also lost by a three-goal margin, slipping to a 4-1 reverse against Brooklands.
On Saturday, the men’s firsts travel to Blackpool’s seconds, push back 11.30am, while the second team are at home to Winnington Park’s fourths at Priestley College, push back 2.15pm.
The women’s firsts visit Macclesfield, push back 3pm, while the seconds’ home clash with Timperley’s fourths gets underway at 12.45pm.
