THE under 17s men’s team at Warrington Athletics Club continued their imperious cross country form on Saturday.

In the latest round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League, the team of Jordan Jones, Joe Buckley and Jack Wadsworth took a team victory for the third time in four meetings.

Jones, who took gold at the Cheshire Championships last week, came second in 22mins 14secs, with Buckley fifth in 22mins 52secs and Wadsworth just behind him in seventh, clocking 23mins 41secs.

Charlie Turnbull also ran well in the same age group, placing 16th with a time of 26mins 15secs.

The under 13s girls also won their team event, with Orla Gregory again leading the way by clocking 12mins 33secs to win the race, just as she did in the last round.

She was backed up by Eva Ferris (10th, 14mins 18secs) and Lucie Davies (13th, 14mins 24secs) and their total of 24 points earned them the top prize.

The B team of Emily Entwistle (17th, 14mins 31secs), Maisie Bell (19th, 14mins 33secs) and Molly Wormald (41st, 15mins 19secs) came ninth as a team and second in the B team ranks, while Amelia Smithers (49th, 15mins 30secs), Shauna Clarke (64th, 16mins 14secs) and Jasmine Jones (69th, 16mins 40secs) made up the C team which came 20th.

For the boys, Erik Marshall ran well to place ninth in 12mins 33secs, with Ben Pucill (36th, 14mins 1sec) and Reece Connell (37th, 14mins 5secs) also contributing to a seventh-place team finish.

Rory Gregory, 12th, and Jacob Pryor, 17th, both finished in the top 20 in the under 11 boy’s race, while Eva Karalius, 7th, Alice Nicholson, 21st, and Harriet Bell, 33rd, ensured Warrington finished sixth as a team in the girls’ race.

In the under 15s age group, Joe Birchall was 11th in 16mins 26secs, with clubmate Isaaq Ataullah close behind in 16th as he stopped the clock at 16mins 38secs.

Rachael McQuillan (158th, 46mins 38secs) was the only Warrington runner in the senior/under 20s women’s race, while Chris Fance (63rd, 43mins 10secs), Henry Buttress (75th, 43mins 50secs) and debutant Sam Drinkwater (156th, 47mins 5secs) made up the club’s contingent in the men’s race.

Meanwhile, four of the club’s younger athletes headed to Sheffield for the North of England Indoor Championships for senior, under 20s and under 17s athletes.

Three of them returned with medals, with Cameron Duff scooping silver in the under 17s 200m race.

After winning his heat and semi-final, Duff’s time of 23.17secs in the final meant he broke his indoor personal best in each of his three races.

In the same age group, Josh Herrington won a share of the high jump bronze medal with a leap of 1.85m, just missing out on silver on countback.

Tom Baines won his under 20s 400m heat before smashing his personal best time in the final to take bronze in 48.96secs.

Sadly, Fisayo Williamson-Taylor could not make it a full house as he finished fifth in the under 20s 60m final.

On Sunday, Warrington Athletics Club’s Andy Green and his son Jack took part in the Run Through Tatton 10km race.

Former British Marathon international Andy, who turned 55 last month, won the race in 35mins 43secs in an excellent result.

Jack was using the race as a tempo training run but still finished just after his father, coming him third in 36mins 44secs.
