HAVING booked her place in the Great Britain team, Lymm runner Harriet Knowles-Jones is aiming to complete a set of medals at the European Cross Country Championships.

The Warrington Athletics Club star already has a silver and a bronze from previous years, the latter coming last year in Chia, and will be going for gold in Samorin, Slovakia, on December 10.

Knowles-Jones confirmed her place in the team by storming to victory in the under 20s race at the British Athletics Cross Challenge on Saturday.

She completed the course at Sefton Park in Liverpool in 15mins 1sec, with clubmate Katie Lowery coming home 21st in 16mins 28secs.

In the under 15s age group, Isaaq Ataullah’s time of 11mins 2secs was good enough for 63rd place, while Jess Connolly stopped the clock at 13mins 4secs to finish 68th in the girl’s race.

Elsewhere, Warrington Athletics Club’s Joe Buckley finished third in the intermediate boy’s race at the Dave Sunderland Trophy Inter-County Schools cross country on Saturday.

Buckley finished just five seconds behind the winner after clocking 17mins 32secs to lead the Cheshire team to third place.

In the junior boy’s race, Marcus Trevithick came home 65th in 9mins 17secs.

At the English Schools Cross Country Cup final, two Warrington runners represented Loreto Grammar School in Altrincham.

Siobhan Gregory came 73rd in the intermediate girl’s race to help her team to 13th place, while Amelia Smithers finished 126th in the junior girl’s race as her team finished 18th.

Further afield, veteran runner Dave Tomkins finished fourth in the over 70s category at the Benidorm 10km road race on Sunday.

His time of 46mins 58secs saw him finish 225th overall.
