WARRINGTON District Motor Club crews featured in a race-long duel.
Stephen Ellison and Mark Carter in their Ford Escort and Philip and George Jennings in their BMW fought for local honour in the Neil Howard Stages Rally, the last motor racing event of the season at Oulton Park.
With no more than a few seconds between them, the close battle continued all day.
A big push over the last few stages resulted in Ellison and Carter pulling away to finish just ahead.
Stuart Deeley and Rob Blackwood in their Toyota Celica suffered early technical problems and had to retire.
The rally takes place over nine stages, using both the circuit and the rally school stage, and included a water splash.
The changeable weather made it a challenge for the crews, especially with the last two sessions being run in darkness.
Warrington District Motor Club meet every Tuesday at Antrobus Golf Club at 8pm.
