Lymm u17 41 Caldy u17 5

LYMM got their Halbro Colts League Junior Conference A campaign off to a flying start.

Although missing several players, they welcomed back captain James Rooney after a long-term wrist injury.

Rooney got on the end of a sweeping move to score the opening try after 20 minutes of unrewarded wind-assisted Caldy pressure had passed.

Lymm, outstanding in defence, were still struggling for possession and penetration.

A rare push up the field led to Ethan Yates powering his way over and Joe Heaton hitting the extras for 12-0 at the break.

Yates smashed his way over for a second and Alfie Simpson converted as Lymm stretch their advantage.

From a five-metre scrum Simpson put in a cross-field kick which Joe Senior caught and popped inside to the supporting Taylor Hopkinson to crash over.

Although in control of the game, Lymm still did not look comfortable but when they were awarded a scrum eight meters out the pack put on a ‘nudge’ giving Harry Aird space to snipe around the side and crash over unopposed. Simpson added the extras.

Yates broke free from a maul to score his third, swatting players off on his way through.

Caldy pulled a try back but there was still time for the home side to have the last say when Mason Beardsworth came down the blindside and crashed over.
