THE starting teams for the opening weekend of the Rugby League World Cup have been named, with five Wolves players in action outside the England team.

Chris Hill was named in Wayne Bennett’s team to face Australia on Friday, but that is not where The Wire’s representation ends.

Ashton Sims will start at prop for Fiji as they take on the USA in Townsville on Saturday, kick off 10.40am UK time.

On Sunday, George King and Joe Philbin will both play for Ireland as they kick off their campaign against Italy in Cairns, kick off 4am UK time.

King will start at loose forward, while Philbin has been named among the interchanges.

Widnes Vikings’ Ed Chamberlain, who was born in Warrington, played junior rugby for Rylands and Crosfields and is a former pupil of St Gregory’s Catholic High School and Priestley College, starts in the centres for Ireland.

Ex-Wolves man and current Salford Red Devils forward Tyrone McCarthy, Warrington-born and a former Woolston Rovers junior, is also on the bench for Ireland.

Later on Sunday, Benjamin Jullien will play in the second row for France as they take on Lebanon in Canberra, kick off 5am.

In the final game of the weekend, Matty Russell has been named on Scotland’s right wing for their opener against Tonga in Cairns, kick off 6.15am.
