IT is really pleasing to receive and hear the positive responses from supporters to the recruitment of our new head coach Steve Price and his deputy Andrew Henderson.

This week’s exciting deal to sign Australian half back Tyrone Roberts was especially well received by supporters. We are busy with the recruitment of players with announcements to be made soon.

The many comments I received at my short stay at the excellent, very popular Oktoberfest Beer Festival at the Parr Hall were encouraging. There can be no doubt that we are at the start of a new chapter in the Wire history.

I will expect Steve and Andrew to establish a new performance culture at the club.

We know that medals and trophies aren’t made of gold, they are made of sweat, determination and that hard to find alloy called guts.

In the meantime, to whet your appetite for the new season we have the World Cup starting in a couple of weeks’ time to look forward to.

It’s good to see so many Wire (and ex-Wire) players involved in the competition.

I am rooting for England and my dark horse team for the tournament which starts Down Under next Friday, October 27, is Tonga.

We are also now starting to make preparations for the town to have a big part in the next Rugby League World Cup in 2021 which will take place here in England.

I am often asked what happens in the ‘close season’.

The simple fact is it doesn’t exist and it is ‘Prepare, Prepare, Prepare!’ both on and off the pitch.

It is relentless but as we all know ‘Once a Wire, always a Wire’.

Don’t forget your full 2018 season memberships at the best prices are still available – it will be a great and very different season – I promise.
