LYMM’S Junior Colts secured their preliminary league title in fine fashion on Sunday.

By running eight tries past their Caldy counterparts, including six in a blistering first-half display, they sealed the preliminary Junior A league crown in the Halbro North West Colts League.

Their success, coupled with a similar one for the Senior Colts in their league, means the club’s Colts teams have lost just one game between them so far this season.

Taylor Hopkinson scored twice for Lymm, while Rhys Jones notched a try and four conversions.

Josh Hadland, George Norman, Harry Aird and George Inman also crossed as Lymm sealed the title in spectacular fashion.

Due to their exceptional start, the game was effectively over by half time.

It was Hadland who opened the scoring by crashing over out wide before a nice handling move was finished off by Hopkinson just two minutes later.

Hopkinson finished between the posts after Ethan Yates took quick ball from a lineout to put Lymm 21-0 up with only 15 minutes gone.

Price, who had converted all three tries, then grabbed one of his own with a well-executed kick and chase.

Norman then crashed over between the posts before Joe Johnson broke the line and raced home from 20 metres out, with Price and Joe Heaton adding the conversions to ensure Lymm went into the break with a commanding 42-0 lead.

Caldy started to throw more caution to the wind after the interval and put together some solid phases, but the home defence held out impressively.

They even managed to extend their lead when Hopkinson crashed through the line and handed on for Aird to finish in the corner.

Inman also scored out wide for Lymm’s final try in between two consolation efforts for the visitors.

Lymm will now go into the Conference League for the remainder of the season but attention turns to cup competitions for the next two weeks.

LYMM’S Senior Colts also secured their Preliminary A league crown in a victory their coach described as “in their top five greatest” since coming together more than a decade ago.

The team have won all six of their games, the last of them coming at Caldy on Sunday as Adam Whitehead scored two tries.

Harry Stainton, Owen Travis and Will Caldwell also crossed the whitewash for the visitors.

George Hughes converted three of Lymm’s five tries as they maintained their 100 per cent record in the competition before it moves into its Conference League phase.

Coach Nick Price waxed lyrical about his side in reaction to their triumph, saying coming up with “special plays” was “a hallmark of their team through the age grades.”

“For me, this was one of our top five greatest victories since we started at under 7,” he said.

“After all these years, we keep going and the quality from senior players comes through to put on special plays for two match-winning tries.

“It’s been the hallmark of our team all through the age grades.

“It’s very pleasing to win our first trophy of the season and with an unbeaten record.

“Six wins from six, who could argue against that?

“It was a hugely proud coaching group that joined the players on the pitch at the whistle.”
