STEFAN Ratchford and Chris Hill are backing Warrington Wolves teammate Ben Currie to be a stand-out performer for England in the Rugby League World Cup.

Currie is set to feature for his country in a warm-up game to the tournament today, Friday, against Affiliated States in Perth, Australia.

All the England players have this one last match to impress coach Wayne Bennett ahead of the World Cup opener against Australia in Melbourne on Friday, October 27, with Ratchford and Hill believing Currie is ripe to make his mark at international level.

The 23-year-old back-rower or centre, whose selection in the squad comes on the back of a domestic season in which he made four appearances after overcoming knee injuries, feels “fresh” for a shot on the biggest stage.

Wire skipper Hill said: “With the injuries he’s had, we’ve not seen the best of him this year at Warrington but he’s coming back now.“What a talent at his age. I’d say he’s probably one of the best I’ve seen coming through for a long time.

“He’s so quick and progressed quite quickly as well.”

Ratchford added: “He’s a special talent. He’s still only 23 but the stuff he’s already done and the way he plays you’d think he was 31/32.“He’s an unbelievable talent. He’s big, he’s fast, he’s strong, he’s got everything about him.

“Hopefully he gets an opportunity to pull on the England shirt and really show us what he’s about.”
