LYMM’S Sean Neary says the disappointing finish to his Ducati Trioptions Cup season has made him reconsider a decision to step away from the sport.

After finishing a creditable third in the first race at the ‘Cathedral of Speed’ track at Assen in the Netherlands on Saturday, Neary crashed out of Sunday’s second outing in the first lap.

Neary was set to step aside from the Zoek Racing team for next year, but now says he wants to return in 2018.

The Lymm rider says he wants to make amends for a season in which he says he has had “no luck from start to finish” by winning the title next year.

“I’m not ready to finish like that and want to come back to win!” he said.

“Unfortunately I crashed out on the first lap; sorry to my team who didn’t deserve that but I wanted to win.

“After a poor start I was riding hard to get to the front.

“It just wasn’t meant to be this season as we have had no luck from start to finish.”

Before his crash, Neary had belied wet conditions to finish on the podium in the first race.

Having started from fourth, Neary found himself up to second after passing Phil Atkinson, but he was overtaken again.

He safely negotiated his bike to a third-place finish, more than 12 seconds clear of the fourth-placed rider.

Neary said: “It was not nice conditions out there in the wet but I managed to stay upright and finish on the podium.”

This left Neary confident going into Sunday’s race, but his hopes of finishing the season with a victory ended on the very first lap.

He was caught out with a cold tyre, causing the crash which ended his race and his season.

Neary ended the Ducati Trioptions Cup series on 177 points, which was good enough to see him finish in fifth place.
