Warrington Town 4 Farsley Celtic 2

YELLOWS moved back to the top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division by getting the better of Farsley Celtic in an entertaining game at Cantilever Park.

Tony Gray scored twice for Paul Carden’s side, with Connor Hughes and Sean Williams also on target.

Warrington started the game on the front foot, with Abou Sanogo firing over from 12 yards having been set up by Rory McKeown.

Sanogo was involved in Town’s opener, however, when his superb cross found Gray and the experienced striker steered home a header.

However, the visitors were not behind for long after they earned a penalty when Yellows skipper Jay McCarten felled James Walshaw, who picked himself up to convert the spot-kick.

Walshaw was denied a second goal by Yellows keeper Tony McMillan before the hosts took the lead again before the break.

Dylan Vassallo sent in a cross and it found its way to Connor Hughes, who gleefully converted in at the far post.

Much like the first period, Warrington started the second half in the ascendency as Sanogo crashed an effort off the post.

They were rewarded with a third goal when Gray produced a superb turn and finish from the edge of the area.

Again, however, Farsley found a way back into the game after a swift counter-attack ended with Adam Priestley playing in Paul Walker, who found the net from 18 yards.

Town came under heavy pressure late on but wrapped up the three points when Sanogo robbed Richard Marshall of possession and, although his effort was saved by Celtic keeper Graeme McKibbin, the stopper felled Sanogo as he tried to gobble up the rebound.

The referee pointed to the spot and Williams dispatched the penalty to seal Town’s victory.
