WOLVES will “scour the world” for new additions to their squad, head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith says.

With four games still remaining of the 2017 campaign, Wolves have made Penrith forward Sitaleki Akauola their first signing for 2018 on a two-year deal.

Smith hopes the Tongan international will be the first of many new faces at The Halliwell Jones Stadium and admits there is “rebuilding” to be done.

However, the Wolves boss says the club will not rush their recruitment.

“We are building for next season and we know we have plenty of rebuilding to do,” he said.

“We are looking around in accordance with what we think we need.

“It is important that we take our time to make sure we get the right people in.

“There is a very small pool of players in rugby league so we cannot limit our search to one place.

“We’ll scour the world and look at the markets here and in the NRL to find what we need.”

While Akauola is on his way to England next year, Andre Savelio is heading in the other direction as he is one of several Wolves players confirmed to be leaving the club at season’s end.

Savelio will join Brisbane Broncos, while hooker Brad Dwyer and centre Rhys Evans will join Leeds Rhinos and Leigh Centurions respectively.

Kurt Gidley is also leaving after he confirmed his retirement from the game, while others including Ashton Sims and Ben Westwood are out of contract in November.
