LYMM’S Sean Neary picked up his first win of the season in race two of Saturday’s Ducati Trioptions Cup series at Thruxton.

Neary, who headed into the series without a win this season, finished second in the first outing but took advantage of a time penalty for rival Joe Collier to triumph in the second.

Collier was adjudged to have gained an unfair advantage by running wide at the club chicane, incurring a half-second time penalty.

This meant Neary only needed to finish as close to his rival as possible to take victory.

“We finally got the bike right and I am back to winning ways,” Neary enthused after the race.

“I was determined I was going to win that race and was intending to make my move at Church on the last lap.

“When Collier cut through the chicane I knew he would get a penalty, so all I had to do was stick on his back wheel and I would get the win.”

After coming home second behind Collier in race one, Neary was put on pole for the next outing and pulled clear of the pack alongside Collier and Levi Day.

Collier and Neary exchanged positions throughout until the former’s mistake allowed Neary to take advantage.

The first race saw Neary start from the second row before storming into the lead, only for Collier to eventually wrestle it back.

The Lymm rider will take confidence into the next round of the Ducati Trioptions Cup series takes place at Silverstone, starting on September 8.

THELWALL’S Aidan Collins is in a fight for second place in the British Flat Track Championship after his title hopes were ended over the weekend.

In rounds six and seven of the series at Ammanford, Collins finished third in both races but Alan Birtwistle was able to secure the title by finishing ahead of him on each occasion.

Collins is now just one point clear of Toby Hales, who won both of the races in South Wales, in second place going into the championship’s final round at Eastbourne on Sunday, September 3.

STOCKTON Heath rider Matt Waldron picked up a double victory on home turf as the BMCRC’s Team Respro 600 Class series rolled into Oulton Park.

Waldron, who runs Orford-based Smallboy Trackbike Hire, had not won a 600 Class race this year but was in red-hot form to rack up lap records in both races.

Shelton O’Grady finished second on both occasions, but never finished closer than two seconds behind Waldron.
