WARRINGTON RUFC coach Andy Roberts says his side’s trial match against higher-ranked Otley was “everything he had hoped for.”

Despite being on the losing side, the young Warrington squad acquitted themselves well against a team two divisions above them as they gear up for the new North One West season.

Nathan Beesley, twice, Kieron Hughes, Jonny Evans and Tom Arnold were on the scoresheet for the Walton Lea outfit.

“This was everything we hoped for from this trial game,” Roberts said.

“We chose to leave our comfort zone to test ourselves against a very high standard of opposition.

“Every player manned up to the challenge and I was particularly pleased with the way we continued to play open rugby right up to the end of the match.”

Warrington’s next trial match sees them travel to Widnes on Saturday.

Their first competitive fixture sees them travel to the Isle of Man to take on Douglas on Saturday, September 2.
