Ashton Bears 20 Latchford Albion 22
LATCHFORD's narrow victory at relegation-threatened Ashton Bears means their place in next season's North West Men's League Premier Division is all but secure.
Chris Brown barged over to give Lee Smith’s side the lead, but Ashton grabbed a converted try to seize the initiative.
However, that was to be the only time Latchford trailed as Andy Unsworth’s try, improved by George Briggs, put them back ahead.
Ashton levelled before the break, but an acrobatic Joe Oakes try and Danny Brown’s clever weave through the defence gave Albion a 12-point lead.
The hosts scored twice late on, but Latchford held on for an important victory.
Albion travel to title contenders Orrell St James on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
