WARRINGTON runners were victors of the Lymm Festival trail races.

Former Warrington Athletics Club competitor Daniel Cliffe was first home in the 10k, while Liz Whitfield from Spectrum Striders won the women's race.

Warrington Triathlon Club's Chris Stanford took the tape in the 5k, while the women's prize went to Radcliffe's Donna Cartwright.

Cliffe was almost three minutes ahead of second-placed Trafford runner Darren Russell with his time of 31mins 35secs.

Also in the 10k top 10 were Tom Greaves from Warrington Road Runners, fourth; Lee Hughes from Lymm Runners, who was fifth and first in the over 40s category; Steven Thompson from Warrington Road Runners, sixth; Anthony Burke from Lymm Runners, eighth and second over 45; Perry Moore from Warrington Road Runners, ninth and second over 40 as well as Phil Rowen from Lymm Runners, 10th and third over 45.

Among the leading women athletes chasing Whitfield, who was 22nd overall, were Claire Demaine from Lymm Runners, second; Jane Lees from Spectrum Striders, third and first in the over 45s; Janice McDonnell from Warrington Running Club, sixth and second over 50; Tarja Barnes from Warrington Road Runners, seventh and second over 45; April Wilkinson from Warrington Road Runners, eighth and third over 35.

Those on the trail of Stanford in the 5k included a stack of Lymm Runners entrants – Hari Sholinghur, third and first over 40; Greg Willson, fifth and third over 35; David Nunnerley, seventh and fifth over 35; Jamie Bradbury, ninth and second over 40; Peter Lloyd, 10th and first over 55, plus Jim Alen, 11th and first over 50.

In the top 10 women, all from Lymm Runners, were Georgina Walker, fourth and second over 40; Germaine Holmes, fifth and third over 40; Lynn Moseley, seventh and first over 55; Ganor Seymour, eighth and fourth over 40; along with Natalie Stewart, 10th.
