WARRINGTON pair James Guy and Kathleen Dawson have missed out on medals in tonight's World Aquatics Championships finals in Budapest.

Former Cardinal Newman High School pupil James Guy finished 0.13 seconds outside the podium positions in the 200m freestyle final after winning his semi-final yesterday, Monday.

The 21-year-old, who also attended Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, came home fifth in 1min 45.36secs - a time slightly slower than qualification when only Great Britain teammate Duncan Scott recorded a faster time in the semis.

Scott was fourth in a tight final, with Sun Yang (China, 1min 44.39secs), Haas Townley (USA, 1min 45.04secs) and Aleksandr Krasnykh (Russia, 1:45.23) taking the medals.

Guy and Scott won two silver medals together at last year’s Rio Olympics in the 4x100m medley and 4x200m freestyle.

Former Stockton Heath resident Guy won a world title over this distance in 2015 in Kazan, Russia.

Ex-Warriors of Warrington swimmer Dawson was eighth in the 100m backstroke final, 1.80secs behind Canadian winner Kylie Jacqueline Masse who secured the title in word record time (58.10secs).

After finishing joint-second in her heat in a time of 59.88secs, Dawson came home third in last night’s semi final in 59.82secs.
