PETA Hiku is set to make his Wolves debut against Wakefield Trinity on Saturday but Joe Westerman is likely to miss the game, Wire boss Tony Smith has confirmed.

New Zealand international Hiku has been training with his new teammates this week after arriving from NRL side Penrith Panthers.

Smith said Hiku had shown he is ready to play but confirmed Westerman is set to miss out with a hip injury.

Declan Patton will have to undergo a fitness test to determine his participation, but skipper Chris Hill will be fit after suffering a tight hamstring against Catalans on Saturday.

“Peta will be fine. We’ve eased him into it as he only arrived on Monday,” he said.

“We made sure we didn’t overexert him too soon but he’s been good in training.

“He’s keen and he’s ready to go emotionally. We just had to make sure he was okay physically and he’s shown he is.

“We’ll probably lose Joe Westerman, he has a hip flexor problem that he’s been carrying for a couple of weeks.

“We’ll run our eye over Dec Patton as well as he’s got a bit of a leg strain and it’s just hampering him a little at the moment.”

Tom Lineham is also set to miss “a couple of weeks” with the abductor muscle injury that kept him out of Saturday’s victory.

Smith said Ben Pomeroy should return to full training next week as he continues his recovery from a knee injury and that winger Matty Russell was “not far off” returning to the side.
