Burtonwood Bridge 36 Great Britain Teachers 26

BURTONWOOD Bridge came out on top in a topsy-turvy clash against a representative Great Britain Teachers side.

Facing a team consisting of players plucked from several high-profile amateur clubs, Bridge fell behind early but tries from Oli Morrissey and Craig Holcroft earned them a 10-6 lead, with Jos Woods converting the second try.

Jacob Almond sped over for a try converted by Greg Peters, but two quick scores brought the Teachers team level at 16-16.

Will Weir’s dazzling try, improved by Peters’ conversion, got Bridge on the front foot shortly before the break and Scott Birchwood crashed over just after the interval to improve their position.

However, the representative side were not to be written off and they hit Bridge with two swift tries once again to put them on level terms.

The game swung in Bridge’s favour thanks to a try from former Widnes Vikings player Almer Salvilla, who was also instrumental in setting up Alex Newton to put an exclamation point on the victory.
