KEVIN Brown’s decision not to play in Saturday’s Challenge Cup defeat to Wigan was the right one, Wolves boss Tony Smith says.

The England stand-off was set to return from a foot injury that kept him out of last week’s game at Castleford and was named in the starting 13.

However, he pulled out in the warm up and was replaced by Dec Patton for the 27-26 defeat.

“Kev was prepared to play with the injury he has, but it was sore and he wasn't able to run freely,” Smith said.

“He made the decision not to play and it was the right decision.

“He trained earlier in the week and it was going to be Browny and Gids, but Dec was on standby for us and was able to step in.”
